St. Wenceslas Day in Czech Republic @ Чехия | Чехия

St. Wenceslas Day in the Czech Republic is also a national holiday – Statehood Day of the Czech Republic (Den české státnosti). It is celebrated annually on September 28th.

Saint Wenceslas (Svatý Václav) is the patron saint of the Czech Republic. Wenceslas was the prince of Bohemia in the first half of the 10th century. He ruled the country while in the capital, the city Prague. Being a deeply religious Christian, he did a lot to ensure that Christianity spread in this small European country.

Wenceslas is the initiator of the construction of St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague Castle. Today this cathedral is the cathedral of the Czech Republic.

There is a monument to Saint Wenceslas on Wenceslas Square in Prague.
