Popular religious holiday in Israel. In 2016, Hanukkah will take place from December 24, 2016 to January 1, 2017.
Hanukkah Festival of Lights is dedicated to the second liberation of the Jerusalem Temple from the Greco-Syrian conquerors, as well as its re-consecration. During the holiday for 8 days near West Wall in Jerusalem attracts many people who undergo a special procedure for lighting candles. Also throughout the city (as well as in Israel as a whole), various events are held, mainly aimed at children, colorful street illumination is lit, and fireworks are set off.
The Festival of Lights Hanukkah is a very ancient celebration. It began to be celebrated back in the 2nd century BC. Today in Israel, Hanukkah is not an official holiday and there is no prohibition on working on these days. But Hanukkah is greatly welcomed by children who are not studying these days. That’s why Hanukkah is sometimes called a “children’s holiday.”
