Catalonia Independence Day is a holiday that is celebrated only in this region of Spain.
On this day Barcelona is decorated with many estelades – red and yellow flags. Local residents take out a festive procession on the city streets wearing national symbols, many holding flags. In the evening, everyone goes to bars and cafes, where they continue to celebrate this holiday.
Most public institutions are closed on this day. But entry to some museums is free, which may please tourists.
