New Year Novruz

Novruz (Newrouz Bayramy) is a New Year celebration among many Turkic and Iranian-speaking peoples. This holiday has official status in Turkey, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Albania and other countries where the Turkic-speaking population lives. In Iran, Nowruz is celebrated as the official beginning of the New Year according to the Iranian solar calendar.

This holiday has nothing to do with Islam; it is an older folk tradition that is rooted in Zoroastrianism. Today, according to existing customs, people must clean their homes on the eve of the holiday, pay off debts, and prepare the festive table. They usually prepare dishes from seven plant products and oriental sweets. The most typical dish for the holiday is sumalak, which is prepared from sprouted wheat sprouts.

Previously, it was customary to light a fire for the holiday. Now it is being replaced by fireworks. Also in Turkey, folklore groups often hold performances during the holiday.
