Valentine’s Day is an international holiday of all lovers, the tradition of celebrating which dates back to the 5th century AD.

February 14 was declared Valentine’s Day in 496, when Pope Gelasius canonized the priest Valentine, who was martyred in 269 and opposed the prohibition of marriage for soldiers of the Roman army.

In Europe, Valentine’s Day began to be celebrated en masse in the 13th century. The main tradition of this holiday is to give gifts to your loved ones. It is different in different countries. These can be marzipan candies, jewelry, dried flowers and others. Modern media in many countries actively advertise this holiday, as it encourages people to make expensive purchases.

On this day, festive concerts, various promotions, and other events are held in many cities in Europe and the world.

It’s interesting that in Barcelona Valentine’s Day (this holiday is called here Sant Jordi) is celebrated not on February 14, but on April 23.
