The Bratislava Vienna Train is an opportunity to simultaneously see two European capitals, which are just an hour away from each other. In this article you will find out the train schedule, ticket prices and how you can buy them online.

Bratislava is a good option for a budget holiday. Air tickets here will cost less than to Vienna and prices for hotels and food here will be much lower than in the neighboring capital of Austria. However, tourists coming to the capital of Slovakia often want to visit Vienna. The distance between these cities is only about 70 km. Vienna is a very beautiful, but rather expensive city. Masha Pasha decided that it was cheaper to live in Bratislava and go to Vienna on excursions by train. If you have flown and settled in Vienna, we advise you to go to Bratislava for one day, this is a rather cozy European city, with a beautiful historical center and Bratislavsky Castle – the city castle.

The Bratislava – Vienna – Bratislava train runs between these cities regularly at intervals of one hour (but sometimes trains run even more often, once every half hour). The first train leaves Bratislava at 6.10 am, the last at 22.38. Travel time is just over an hour. From Vienna to Bratislava, the first scheduled train departs at 6.16 am, the last at 22:16. The above train schedule is valid for 2019, it is subject to change.

From Bratislava, the train departs from the city’s central train stationBratislava hl.st.(Bratislava hlavná stanica), which is a 15-minute walk from the medieval city center. In Vienna, the train stops at Wien Hbf, a 10-minute walk from Belvedere Palace and 20 minutes walk from the medieval town centre. Everything is close and accessible, very convenient. By the way, there is a metro station at the Vienna train station, so you can then return here by subway.

The Bratislava Vienna train is a regional express and runs almost non-stop. The train is modern and comfortable. When Masha Pasha rode on it (it was about 9-10 o’clock in the morning) the train was half empty, there were many empty seats. Late in the evening there were more people traveling, but there were still empty seats. Train tickets are sold online, as well as at station ticket offices and in special machines. Ticket price in 2019 was 11 euros. You can find out the current schedule and buy a ticket for the Bratislava Vienna train online on the website of the European railway operator Omio at this link. Bratislava Viennabus tickets are also sold there on Omio. They will be half the price (5-6 euros per ticket), but the bus takes a little longer (about an hour and a half) and may get stuck in traffic jams. But here it is more convenient for anyone. Masha Pasha prefers to travel in Europe by train. But it will be a little cheaper by bus.

By the way, tickets for the Bratislava Vienna train are also sold by Rail Europe, but for some reason their price is currently higher, 14 euros (here is the link).

In Bratislava, a special tourist ticket Bratislava – Vienna was also sold at the railway station. It cost about 16 euros and included return train travel and one day of free transport in Vienna. But it was impossible to buy it online. And in Vienna such a ticket is not sold. We don’t know whether this offer still exists; we need to clarify the information on the spot.
