Košice Day is an important holiday for residents of the Slovak city Košice. Celebrated annually on May 7th.
On this day in 1369, the inhabitants of Kosice received a city coat of arms from the ruler Louis the Great, which emphasized the status of Kosice as a city.
Today, as part of the celebration of Kosice Day, knightly celebrations and tournaments are held in the city on this day, a medieval fair of traditional crafts is organized, and various historical processions are held.
City authorities in the center of Kosice on Glavna Street organize a 4-kilometer charity run, and also announce opening of the season at Košice Zoo and the Dinosaur Park, Košice Castle, Observation Tower and Children’s Railway.
