The International Peace Marathon has been held in Kosice since 1924. After Boston, it is the oldest marathon in the world.

The marathon is held in Kosice every year on the first Sunday of October. Both professional athletes and amateurs can take part in the race.

The main marathon distance is 8.5 km long. The shorter marathon for amateurs is just over 4 km long. There is also a 20 km distance for rollerblading and wheelchair running.

The finish of the marathon is on Glavna Street – the historical center of Kosice. There is a three-meter bronze sculpture of a marathon runner here.

Not only local residents, but also people from other Slovak cities and countries take part in the Peace Marathon.
