The International Festival of Sacred Music and Art in Rome (Festival Internazionale di Musica e Arte Sacra) is a major event in the world of sacred art. The festival takes place annually in the fall (usually in November) in Vatican and Rome.
In 2017, the 15th such festival will be held from November 16 to 21. For 2018 and subsequent years, the current date of the festival can be found on the official website.
The opening of the festival takes place in St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, where a solemn mass and concert take place. Further, concerts of sacred music are held in the largest churches and cathedrals of Rome (Santa Maria Maggiore, St. Clement, St. John Lutheran and other basilicas).
At the concerts, the world’s leading orchestras play the music of such world-famous composers as Mozart, Bach, Schubert, Wagner, Puccini, Rossini, etc. World-famous orchestras such as the Philharmonic Orchestras of Vienna and London, the cathedral choirs of Cologne, Salzburg, and other famous choirs take part.
In addition to musical performances, there are art exhibitions on religious themes.
