Constitution Day of the Third of May (Swieto Konstytucji Trzeciego Maja) is an official public holiday in Poland, a day off.

Every year on May 3, Poles celebrate the anniversary of the adoption of the country’s first constitution. This happened back in 1791. Few people know that the Constitution in Poland was adopted before the famous French constitution. In fact, it is the oldest constitution in Europe.

On this day, festive church prayers, parades, concerts, and other special events take place throughout Poland. In Krakow an orchestra and military equipment parade through the city streets. The main events then take place on the central Rynok Square. Poles honor veterans and lay flowers.
