The CatholicFeast of the Three Kings(Trzech Króli) in honor of Epiphany in Poland is celebrated annually on January 6th. Since 2001, this day has been an official day off, which ends the Christmas and New Year holidays.

According to legend, on this day three biblical kings – the Magi (Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar) came to bow to the baby Jesus after his birth.

Thousands of people take part in the festive procession

In Poland, on this day, it is customary to go to a festive church service in the morning, and then take part in the massive carnival processions that take place in Warsaw, Krakow and other major cities of the country. Crowds of people dressed in masquerade costumes accompany the “three kings” and walk with them along the central streets of the city. Everyone sings holiday songs and carries Christmas paraphernalia. Decorated angels and demons are also present at the festival.

Also on this day there is a tradition of baking sweet almond pie and bagels – “Shedryki”.
