Republic Day in Turkey (Cumhuriyet Bayramı) is an annual national holiday that was founded in honor of the proclamation of the independent Turkish Republic in 1923. It was in 1923, on October 29, that the Turkish parliament amended the country’s Constitution, as a result of which the collapse of the Ottoman Empire was formalized and the Turkish Republic was formed.

Republic Day celebrations in Turkey begin as early as the afternoon of October 28, which is a short working day. National flags are hung everywhere in the country, festive events and processions are held. The main holiday events take place on October 29. In Ankara, military parades, other events and speeches by politicians are held on the territory of the Kemal Ataturk Mausoleum. During the day, the entire country falls silent for a “minute of silence” in memory of the victims. On the evening of October 29, festive concerts, fireworks and fireworks are held in major cities of the country (Istanbul, Ankara and others).

Republic Day is celebrated most solemnly in Ankara and Istanbul. In Istanbul, as a rule, colorful fireworks are organized over the Bosphorus in the evening.
