City Day in Burgas is celebrated annually on December 6th. On this day in Bulgaria they also celebrate the day of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, who is the patron saint of sailors and fishermen. Burgas is a major port on the Black Sea, so choosing this holiday as a city day is quite logical.
Also on this day in Burgas, a Christmas tree is installed and decorated on Troikata Square, which is the beginning of the celebration of Christmas and New Year in the city.
On Burgas Day, all educational institutions are closed, and children take an active part in the celebration of the city day. Also free on this day is all city transport and parking in the city center (blue zone).
Solemn events on Burgas Day include: a festive concert on Troika Square, Kurbani fish treats, a festive liturgy in the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius. And in the evening, colorful fireworks await everyone.
