Music Day in France

Music Day in France (officially “Fête de la Musique” – celebration of music) is a popular folk holiday that takes place annually on June 21, the longest daylight hours. It was first held in 1982. Since then, this holiday has taken root well among people and has spread far beyond the borders of France.

On this day, in Paris and other French cities, it is customary to hold parades of orchestras, concerts, both indoors and outdoors, and just as easily on the streets, in restaurants and cafes. At various concerts, both unknown performers and world-famous stars sing and play on the same stage, specially coming to France on this day to perform here for free.

Music is performed in all genres: from classical and folk to modern electronic and club music. Spontaneous street performances and various performances are encouraged.
