Alpine lake Popradske pleso is located near the popular Slovak resort Shtrebske Ples. This is one of the most beautiful lakes of the High Tatras.

Popradske pleso is located in the Slovak part of the High Tatras in the Mengušyvets valley at an altitude of 1494 m above sea level. The easiest way to get to the lake is from the “Popradske pleso” railway station, from where a beautiful asphalt road leads to the lake. You will have to walk uphill for about 40 minutes, but the climb is not very strong. To drive this road by car, you will need to obtain a special permit from the protection service of this nature park.

Lake Popradske pleso, like other lakes of the High Tatras, has a glacial origin. Its maximum depth is 17 meters. The area of the lake is 6.88 hectares.

In terms of infrastructure, a small mountain hotel is located here. Prices in the cafe at the hotel are low. You must try the local hot tea mixed with dried fruits here – it is very tasty and costs a penny.

A footpath has been laid around the lake, which can be used to go around the entire lake in 25-30 minutes. Also, hiking routes towards Shtrebsky Ples (this route is easy) and towards Velitsky Lake (difficult route with a steep climb to Mount Ostrva) start from here.

Not far from Lake Poprad is the “Symbolic Cemetery” dedicated to all those who died in the High Tatras. It takes 5-7 minutes to walk to it from the lake.
