Limassol Zoo (Limassol Zoo) is a small but beautiful and well-kept zoo located on the territory of Municipal park in the center of Limassol (Cyprus). It was radically updated in 2012 and is now a completely modern zoo, with spacious enclosures for animals, shady alleys with gazebos and benches, as well as a cafe and a children’s playground on the territory.

The Limassol Zoo is located in the Municipal Park on the embankment street “28 October Avenu”. The nearest public transport stop is called “Municipal Gallery”. It is located on the same road. Bus number 30 stops here and travels along the entire city embankment. Just keep in mind that the entrance to the zoo is not from the embankment, but from the park. That is, you will have to go to the Municipal Park and walk around the zoo, as if from the other side, in order to get inside.

The zoo is open all year round. It is closed only on December 25, January 1, August 15 and Easter. On other days, its doors open at 9 am and it works almost until the end of daylight hours (in December the zoo will close at 16:00, and in the summer – at 19:00). But it is best to come here in the morning, since from approximately 10:00 to 13:00 the animals are fed here.

Entrance ticket price

An adult entrance ticket to Limassol Zoo in 2020 cost 5 euros. Children under 5 years old have free admission. For a child aged 5 to 12 years, you must pay 2 euros per ticket. Admission for students is 3 euros. There are also “family tickets” for large families (2 or more children). Overall, the price is quite reasonable. If your children like animals, then you can visit this place several times. For those living in Limassol, an interesting offer will be an annual zoo card priced at 60 euros for adults and 30 euros for children.

Flamingo Cafe

The Flamingo Cafe is the only cafe in the zoo. Here you can just sit with your sandwiches.

Zoo territory

It must be said that the territory of the Limassol Zoo is quite small. If desired, you can walk around the entire zoo in half an hour. But if you are with children, this visit may last 2 hours. There are very comfortable enclosures here. The fences practically do not block the view of animals, which can be easily seen even by small children. And you can even touch some harmless animals.

The alleys of the zoo are now after renovation. There is a lot of shade, there are gazebos, benches, hanging bridges over ponds… Everything is done very beautifully. You feel comfortable here, you even want to just stay for a while. There is a Flamingo cafe on site overlooking the aviary of these birds. Nearby there is also a children’s playground with a picnic area.

Zoo animals

There are not very many animals in the Limassol Zoo due to the small area. To solve this problem, the administration decided to place several species of animals in enclosures together, which are not dangerous to each other. I must say that this was a good decision. Firstly, you can almost always see someone in the enclosure. Even if some animals have gone to sleep, others are awake. Secondly, in this way it was possible to fit quite a lot of different animals into a small zoo.

Pygmy hippos

Pygmy hippos are one of the most interesting animals at the zoo.

At the Limassol Zoo you can see: martens and otters (an enclosure with a panoramic pool in the center of the zoo), a pygmy hippopotamus, Australian kangaroos Wallabies living with Emu ostriches, as well as antelopes, llamas, Cypriot mouflons, gophers, meerkats, monkeys – tamarins. In a small pond in the center of the zoo lives a small crocodile – the Paraguayan caiman.

Among the birds in the zoo there are pink flamingos, swans, pelicans, various owls, and a barn owl. And in a separate reptile building you can see pythons, boa constrictors and other snakes, as well as lizards, monitor lizards and iguanas.
